Shannon County is located in South Central Missouri. It is surrounded by the Missouri counties of  Texas, Dent, Oregon, Ripley, Carter, and Howell.  The county spans 1003.82 square miles. The county is home to several state conservation areas. Additionally, there are many areas in the county across the Mark Twain National Forest for recreational opportunities.

The Neighboring School District of Junction Hill, oftentimes has students that join Mountain View Birchtree high school due to the smaller school district not having a high school.   To clarify, students attending the neighboring Junction Hill School District can select a high school in a neighboring school district after completion of 8th grade.  Then, Junction Hill School Districts pays tuition for the child to the high school district chosen. As a neighboring district, Liberty Highschool in Mountain View is often considered for Junction Hill students.
